469 Do You Give Yourself Processing Time?

This is Anne with your Coaching On The Go.

I’ve been working on retraining the way I use my body to run and walk.

If you’ve known me for a while, you know that I had scoliosis as a kid.

I switched sports back and forth, avoiding pain, and eventually here into my adulthood, had a chiropractor rework my lower back.

Every time you change something, it causes you to adjust many other things.

Because the way I was running and using my legs, hips, and glutes, was a way I adapted as I was growing, I grew into it.

To change part of it, to change a foundational part of the way I was moving, caused many other things to need to be shifted.

Why would I tell you this?

When you change a behavior that is embedded into the way you operate, it affects many things.

It will likely take a while to adjust all the peripheral elements connected to that root behavior.

So this morning, I’m thinking of this because I’m out walking.

I’ve been working on changing the way I use my hips and glutes on the left side to match the right, for almost a year and a half now.

Finally, through some exercises I was asked to do for Achilles tendinitis, I realized the last link in what I get to do to operate fully again.

This last understanding has me standing all the way up with really exceptional posture, shoulders back, which I’ve never done when I’ve walked.

It’s giving me room to lift my torso through the center with my abs.

Now my hips and glutes have room to fire.

It’s taken me almost two years to completely rework this basic motion I’ve been doing since I was a kid.

As you go to change a behavior, let’s start with the belief.

When you look all the way back to the root of why something is happening, its origins, and the story behind it, that is the beginning of a process of shifting that can take years to complete.

That’s why typically, I have you in my programs for a minimum of a year.

I want to help you flush those all the way out.

If you can’t, it’s easy to go back into the habits and patterns on the well-worn path you established over decades.

Be patient with yourself and curious, as you learn how to rebalance after a new understanding.

Have a beautiful day.
