528 I’m Teasing You On Purpose
This is Anne with your Coaching On The Go.
I gave you a really loose assignment yesterday to tease your brain and coax you out of your everyday structure so you think outside the box.
I called on you to create a self-portrait by Friday where each dimension, height, height, width, and depth are no larger than six inches.
You need to use items in your living space or that you find on a nature walk.
The result needs to be a self-portrait.
If you are stumped on that, what is the most typical self-portrait you can think of?
Are you thinking of a face?
What if your self-portrait was made out of wood?
What would that look like?
In Undergrad, we were assigned in 3d Art and Design, to take a single sheet of plywood and make a self-portrait with the entire piece.
It ended up being a three-dimensional thing where I used the wood horizontally, and vertically, I tipped and tilted it, and glued it.
It ended up being a very cool three-dimensional head and shoulders.
That’s what I chose.
My son, when he was in industrial design in college, was tasked with using a single ebony pencil, and writing his name over and over to create a beautiful drawing.
He is super resourceful, and used the letters of his name in different sizes, in different positions, and weights, more pressure making the lines darker and lighter.
He created an incredibly beautiful drawing that I grabbed, framed, and kept for myself.
When he went to the critique, they thought he cheated because he took the basic structures of the assignment and pushed it to the limits in ways no one else had.
I’m excited to see what you can do.
Have a beautiful day.
