109 And…there Gets to be Fun!
Hey, this is Anne with Your Coaching On The Go.
This week as we talk about schedules, calendars, and journals, it can start to feel like you’re getting bogged down.
I’ve had people mention how it’s a masculine approach.
I’ve had people talk about how it’s infringing in a way.
They’re concerned about it overstepping into their creativity.
I am all over that with you.
Your coach, I, am creative.
I am someone who was raised in an environment where my Dad was austere with rules and structures as well as my Mom.
There was a lot of regimentation.
There were a lot of us in the household.
There were a lot of structures for success, things we got to follow, doctrines, paradigms structures, rules, lots of love, and lots of joy.
But the rules!
It was punitive when you didn’t follow those rules.
And who doesn’t want to do a great job, right?
So my Creative is often dying to get out and play.
Often my Creative wants to rebel against the calendar and flee the scene.
I could use many excuses as to why this happens.
I’m giving you some paradigms from my childhood, but the fact is, here I am, an adult, and I have big things that I want to do.
I’m climbing a mountain that I created, an incredible mountain of possibility that I’ve sensed.
I’ve said yes to it.
I’ve created it.
I’m scaling it.
You are each doing the same.
We get to find ways to work with ourselves.
We know ourselves better than anybody.
We are all different, but we have some commonalities.
I’m here to roll up my sleeves with you and figure out what are going to be the best tools for you.
I find that I have to have, I get to have a combination.
I get to have a combination of structure and play.
I’ve gotten to the point in the last year or so, that scheduling is my fun, even though it seems weird.
When I put the fun in the calendar, and I’m still challenging myself to get it in the calendar, I make it a beautiful color.
Woo-ooh.
That looks more fun to me.
What will make your calendar look better to you?
Glitter?
Paint?
I don’t care what it is.
Nice markers?
Smelly markers?
Scratch and sniff stickers?
You decide.
You decide what would make your calendar inspiring.
Your journal.
I showed you my push journal from Shailene Johnson and some of you have grabbed i.
It’s kind of fun.
I have colored pencils.
I’m still playing with making it fun.
If I effectively use the calendar, I less often and very infrequently find myself in that space where I completely leave a trail of missed appointments, apologies, and embarrassment or have people feel like I don’t value them enough to pay attention.
You get to balance these things out in your own lives.
I am here to support you and tailor things in a way that is useful for you.
I’m here to work with you.
I’m going to keep throwing out the things that are working for me.
We are all entering uncharted territory for ourselves.
In that we are together.
A coach’s community often looks like the coach.
Not surprisingly, a lot of creative thinkers, and a lot of people who know that their best thing is on its way.
They’re clearing away garbage or stress or guilt or pain from the past to have the freedom to be really happy, really satisfied, and living a lip smacking life.
You are working on documenting this week.
You are focusing mainly on just taking a look around at what you do every day.
Do you like it?
Is it balanced?
You are documenting.
You are looking at the stats.
You’re thinking…
“What do I like?”
“What would I like more of?”
“What do I not have enough of?”
“What do I have too much of?”
“What would I like to see?”
Then you are finding tools.
If your tool is getting boring to you, and you’ve been using something, what can you do to add interest to it?
You could even pick a color for different aspects of your calendar, work, screen time, exercising, free time, reading.
You could color-code it to see how it looks.
Have some fun with it.
Get into the nitty-gritty of how we’re using time because when we step into the next level, we can’t be dinking around wasting a lot of time and satisfying all the things that are elements and components of a rich, beautiful life.
To step into it and to have it all, everything you want, you get to be efficient with the time.
Scheduling your playtime, free-time, scheduling it all in, will support you so you don’t leave important things out.
In my life, in my history, I realized through a recent workshop, that I have a generational thing that’s been going on where people in my family who are very gifted at something sacrifice it to do the responsible thing and make the money.
I know some of you are already getting rid of some of that, or you are still hanging on to it.
You are doing something that’s taking time and effort.
You are not doing or leaving the thing that you really love for last.
Or it’s not getting the amount of time it needs, and you’re putting something else in its place because you think you have to.
We are going to work on all this, but it starts with us looking at the calendar and seeing what we’re doing with our time.
All right, sending you big love.
